Woodbridge 0-4 Woodhurst
Godbold Cup Final
Abridge Village Hall, Sunday 9th May 04

Woodhurst ended their season in fine fashion to collect the Godbold Cup and seal their last year in the Independent Sunday league as double winners.

After the disappointment of defeat to Essex Minors in the Williams Trophy Final seven days earlier, the boys from Nelson Road were determined not to miss out on Cup success. Facing Woodbridge, winners of division three, the Hurst were up against a relatively unknown quantity. But in the mood they were today they would have been a match for most and in this game had just too much in every department for Woodbridge to handle.

The return of Andrew Sheppard and Jamie Bradbury meant Roy Lawley re-shuffled his pack and the pair began up-fronty and were soon hounding their opponents.

Much of the early play was in the Woodhurst attacking third, but when Woodbridge did manage to cross the halfway line, the defence of Bashford, Alexander, Clifford and Hughes tidied up in style.

It was no surprise when the Hurst eventually opened the scoring after 20 minutes. Bradbury turned insde the box and made space to square to Sheppard. With his Dominican tan still evident, the number 10 tucked under the 'keeper and the Hurst were on their way.
