Woodhurst 1 - Lacey Wanderers 2
Parmiters Sports Ground, Sunday 7th September 03
It was a return to Parmiters, where Woodhurst have enjoyed only one victory since March 16th, for the second, and what would become final, warm-up match in this very poor pre-season.
Again Woodhurst were left sweating until moments before kick-off on whether they would have 11 men to start the game. They did and took early control of the game against a fairly strong Lacey side who finished third in the ISL two seasons previous.
Some excellent one and two touch football opened Lacey's mature defence on more than one occasion and it was no surprise when the lead arrived. A high ball into the back post where Jimmy Woodham was waiting. When some might go for goal themselves, Woodham intelligently heded back into the danger-zone where Jamie Bradbury was on hand to volley into the top corner of the net.
More goals should have followed for the home side, but it was the visitors who were next to score with goals either side of the break which could have been view as against the run of play.
Some fine work from the Lacey keeper, kept Woodhurst at bay, and in the end tired legs began to show.
Some positives to be taken out of a two-one defeat, but the lack of fitness and players could be a real problem when the season starts.
