Woodhurst 0 - Kamara 2 Independent Sunday League
Parmiters Sports Ground, Wednesday 23rd April 03
A disappointing midweek performance saw Woodhurst slump to their first-ever home defeat to rivals Kamara on a bobbly Parmiters pitch and all but end their chances of lifting the ISL Championship for a third successive year..
The Hurst's team spirit failed to show up as they played the first 30 minutes with only 10 men and Kamara, though enjoyed far less possession than the home side, deserved to come away with the three points leaving a sorry Woodhurst side to bicker over what went wrong.
Kamara took the lead midway through the first half when a misjudgement at the back allowed the Kamara forward space to head home from close range into an empty net.
After the break, Woodhurst continued to press but couldn't find the net as Kamara held strong, but two disallowed strikes didn't help. First a Jan Souleyman header chalked off for an earlier hand ball, then with 20 minutes left, Simon Probert was denied a lovely strike. As the Kamara number one went walk about outside the box leaving his defence to guard his goal, the ball dropped to Probert who neatly lifted over the last two defenders and in to the net. A clear goal, and the referee's explanation - one of the last two defenders must be the goalkeeper - didn't wash with Woodhurst who are too familiar with Law 11 to be fooled.
Luck clearly wasn't on the Hurst's side and as they committed men forward in search of that elusive equaliser, Kamara broke to seal victory with their second.
A poor result that could have been avoided, but what rankled was the dissension in the Woodhurst ranks - a team that is built on a fine team spirit. A change in attitude is required at Parmiters if the glory days are to return.
