Woodhurst 4 - Kamara 1
Godbold Cup 3rd Round

Parmiters Sports Ground, Sunday 9th March 03

After a tough first half against a vibrant Kamara and a strong wind, Woodhurst came out fighting and four second half goals sent them cruising into the Godbold Cup semi final

With a new look side Matt 'Evil' Bradbury collared by the lawfollowing a number of injuries and absences, Woodhurst welcomed back Dave Evans in goal for his first game of the season will Matt Bradbury, elder brother of striker Jamie, came in on the right-hand side of midfield. Andrew Norton, left his gloves in his bag and started the game as a target up-front.

But it was a rather sloppy start by the home side who found themselves a goal down after half an hour. A mix up in the back let in the Kamara striker and, though he perhaps should have done better with the shot, it took a bobble on the drying mud and bounced over Evans' leg and rolled in.

But Woodhurst continued to weather the first half storm and after the break it was a different story.

A delightful through ball from Matt Bradbury set Jamie free, but though he hit it well and on target, the keeper managed to get his body in the way and make a good stop. But they were soon level. Again it was the number nine, controlling a high ball in the box and with his next stuck the ball in the far corner from 15 yards.

The hurst were now level and in the ascendancy looking dangerous every time they went forward. And another ball up to Bradbury allowed him to turn his mark in the box a pick out Jan Souleyman arriving at the back post. The lad they call 'Jano' took Matt 'Evil' Bradbury collared by the lawtime to set himself before letting rip hard a low into the Kamara goal for 2-1.

Kamara now had there heads down and looked rattled as they picked fights with each other and thin air. Jimmy Woodham made his return from injury after three games out as a replacement for Norton and before long it was three-one.

Bradbury again finding acres of space in the box, he side-stepped the keeper to tuck home amongst appeals from the visitors for an earlier foul. Souleyman then put Bradbury's hat-trick chance on a plate. Breaking free down the left, the number 14 enticed the defence and the keeper out of position before lifting a delightful ball towards the back post for the un-marked Essex boy. And with hopeful shouts of 'miss' from the defence, Bradbury rose to nod into the empty onion bag.

A business-like second half after a difficult forty-five to put the hurst back on the winning trail following last weeks disappointing defeat.

Afterward manager Jimmy Woodham told woodhurstfc.co.uk, "It was a tough opening and after going behind, they boys showed great character to come back in style.

"I know it's still a long way to go, but when the lads play so well, it would be harsh if they ended up with nothing."

And of his own return he added: "I wasn't intedning to come on, but Norts was blowing a bit so I though I'd give myself the last fifteen,

"I felt good, if a little tight, and I'll probably have another run out next week."
