Tudor 0 - Woodhurst 2 Godbold Cup - Round two
Spring Farm Park, Rainham, Sunday 15th December 02
A return to fluid football and the Woodhurst spirit was no surprise on a day Jimmy Woodham had his biggest squad to select from.
Up against a very useful, but youthful, division three side in Tudor, the Hurst were in control for much of the game with the physical edge combined with
some very neat football.
Woodhurst could have have found themselves in front much earlier, but the run of the ball was just not on their side, Woodham, Bradbury, Probert and Souleyman all being frustrated.
However, just before the stroke of half-time, the strength of Bashford and Lawley, in the box for a Hughes corner, was too much. Bashford's knock down fell kindly for Probert who prodded home from close range.
After the break much of the same continued with Woodhurst playing a very attractive passing game on a mucky surface. A glaring miss by Rogers firing over at the end of the great run was a highlight and two fine stops from
the Tudor number 1, again from Rogers and the head of Bradbury, kept the score at 1-0.
But the game was tied up with 15 minutes left. The Hurst broke quickly following a Tudor attack and Probert played a ball inside to Bradbury. His nudge past the final defender opened up a shot and the resulting skidder was too powerful
for the keeper on the wet ground and the ball ended up neatly in the net.
Another Bradbury strike, latching on to a through ball from substitute Steven Norton, was ruled out for a very close offside, but the damage was already done and Woodhurst move into Round Three to face either Kamara or Essex Minors Threes.
