Redcliffe Rovers 0 - Woodhurst 2
Williams Trophy Semi-Final

Parmiters Sports Ground, Sunday 6th April 03

Following two games without a win, Woodhurst returned to winning ways and earned a place in the Williams Trophy Final.

The return of Paul McShea and Tony Taylor meant that Jimmy Woodham was able to name two subs for the second week in succession and see the best back four in the league restored.

Jimmy: scratch and squint From the first whistle the Hurst were in control and it took some stout defending and the woodwork that prevented the game from being over before the break. Tony Taylor's fierce left-footed drive curled away at the last striking the post, then moments later a Steve Hughes strike with his left also hit the same target and Ryan Houlton also saw a shot cleared from under the bar.

At the other end, the back four and Norton were rarely troubledand tidied up anything that did come their way with ease.

After the break it was more of the same, until eventually the deadlock was broken. A Roy Lawley header caught the Redcliffe defence on their heels as Simon Probert beat the goalkeeper to a loose ball in the box. As the big Number one backtracked, Probert unleashed a strike destined for the far corner, but a defender's hand on the line stopped it from going in. He saw red, and up stepped Woodham to take the spot kick.

The usually clinical gaffer, who'd earlier been denied in a one on one, saw his scuffed penalty go straight at the 'keeper, but fortune favoured Buffalo as he could only parry and the rebound dropped nicely at Woodham's toes to side-foot home.

Ryan: Swedish A ten minute spell followed where Woodhurst took their foot of the pedal and Redcliffe were given some attacking possession, but again they kept hitting a brick wall. Woodhurst then stepped up the play once more and regained control.

Substitute Matt Bradbury found space in the box but his shot flew across the goal and past the post, but then Woodhurst were home and dry with two-minutes left.

Houlton collected the ball 25 yards out, drawing the defender to him he knocked a neat one-two with other sub Jamie Bradbury, coming on for the impressive Terry Parris for his first taste of action in four weeks, and buried the return pass into the far corner to send Woodhurst to the Williams Trophy Final for the third year running.
