Four Players honoured in club awards - 19th May 02
In the after-match analysis in the Nightingale, as well as Hughes receiving the Award for Goal of the Season, Jan Souleyman was voted Players’ Player of the year, whilst Dave Evans and Terry Parris both picked up the Chairman’s honour of Clubman of the Year. The final award of Manager’s Player will be presented on tour.
Woodhurst Grab the Godbold - 12th May 02
Woodhurst cancelled out last season’s final defeat after winning the Godbold Cup in this thrlling affair with Lorient to hand the double to Jimmy Woodham’s men. After a cagey start the ‘Hurst’s nerve were settled when Jamie Bradbury struck with a spectacular 20 yard volley to put them one-nil up. Shortly after skipper-for-the-day Paul McShea made it two with a close range header. However, Lorient pulled one back from the penalty spot after 35 minutes after Paul Jones fouled in the box. But the scoring was complete just before the break when Simon Probert went one on one and deftly lifted the ball over the advancing keeper into the net.
Final Score: Lorient 1 – Woodhurst 3
