New North Park 1 - Woodhurst 2
Bank of England Sports ground, Sunday 25th August 02

Goals: Jamie Bradbury 1 and 1 own goal

A goal in either half gave the Hurst a deserved victory against a plucky New North Park side, but the superior passing display twinned with a solid defensice trio of Wagstaff, Taylor and Fullerton was too much for the home side to combat.

Chances came for Bradbury, Souleyman, Woodham and Rodgers as Knight and Spriggs pressured either flank with pace. The breakthrough finally came after half an hour. Souleyman's throw in to Bradbury who found space in the box allowed the number 9 to turn and fire in a dangerous cross, the unlucky foot of a defender was on hand to guide past the keeper in to the roof of the net.

With the clock running out on the first period, two dubious corners were given by the ref, supplied by the home side, and a header from the ginger defender levelled matters.

A slow second half start from Woodhurst allowed New North Park a couple of opportunities, but when they did threated the goal, Norton dealt with comfortably.

Jan Souleyman again displaying his enjoyment of running as he controlled the game in the middle of the park, linking up well with Dan Knight on the left and always causing problems.

The winning goal came with 25 minutes left. Spriggs crossed for Bradbury and Lawley to deal with, the first flick was blocked, but the rebound fell to Bradbury who smashed in from 8 yards.

The scoreline could, and perhaps should, have been extended when Knight, Souleyman, Spriggs and a couple of Rodgers chances came close, but in the end a well earned victory in the first real turnout of the new season.
