The FA Staff Team 3 - Woodhurst 3
Paddington Rec, Friday 9th August 02

Goals: Damion Spriggs, Mark McShea, Jamie Bradbury

Two goals in the last thirty seconds of the match spared Woodhurst the blushes against a side yet to take anything from them in their annual match.

An almost unrecognisable line-up including only the McShea brothers, Mark and Paul alongside Jamie Bradbury as the only players from last season's treble winners following numerous absences, departures and last minute drop-outs.

In came Woodhurst players in the Rayleigh six-a-side, Jamie Holberton, Jerry Newman and Matthew Bradbury with Steve Hughes' flat mate and fellow jock, Gareth Briggs. Local boy Richard Mitton - who was milling about on the pitch before kick off - stepped forward to help out with numbers. But the real plus side was two players keen to join the ranks, former Drapers Field regular Andy Norton in goal and ex-Kamara boy and colleague of the club Secretary, Damion Spriggs up-front leaving both sides with ten men from the start.

Woodhurst started the best and were in control of possession for much of the opening stages, but the deadlock was broken when an FA move finally landed at the feet of former Woodhurst general Paul Jones to fire home and bite the hand that used to feed him.

Woodhurst were soon level however. A neat move on the left between Holberton and Chicken pulled Woodhurst back into gameMark McShea and the ball fell kindly to Spriggs who took one touch away from Jones and powered in from 12 yards.

After the break The FA grabbed two very well worked goals and Woodhurst looked dead and buried as they failed to adjust to the astro turf.

But with just second remaining on the clock, Mark McShea found space in the box to slam in what felt like a consolation. However, though only thirty seconds remained, Spriggs won the ball back straight from the re-start and drove down the left to the bye-line. His pull back slipped through the feet of Mitton and on to the run of Jamie Bradbury who made no mistake against his employers and charges. As the ball rippled in the net, the final whistle blew and everyone was happy.
