Essex Minors 1-5 Woodhurst
Independent Sunday League
Bretons Farm, Sunday 8th February 04

In very blustery conditions in Hornchurch, Woodhurst made heavy weather of Essex Minors eventually running out convincing winners.

It was always going to be a tough encounter with the wind causing problems for both sides, but Woodhurst adjusted better and were soon in control of the game. After a couple of good chances had seen the 'keeper into action, Jamie Bradbury latched onto Nick Bashford pin-point through ball and from 25 yards caressed the ball deftly over the 'keepers hapless dive to make it 1-0.

But the visitors failed to take the initiative of the lead and were forced onto their back foot when Minors attacks added pressure.

Essex Minors efforts were rewarded shortly after the break. A Hurst attack failed and the home side broke away to level matters and it was game on.

The next goal would be crucial and as Minors enjoyed a littel more attacking possession, Woodhurst worked a route to goal down the left. Jenssen Clifford's ball from the left was flicked on by Bradbury into the path of Andrew Sheppard to roll the ball past the goalie and in for his eight goal in his eight Woodhurst game.

After realising how easy it was working down the left with the wind to help, the final twenty minutes saw an awesome Woodhurst rampage that sent a shock to the Minors.

Sheppard supplied Bradbury for his second and the 'Hurst's third and then Jan Souleyman began to bamboozle the Blue and Black defence down the left flank.

On two occasions the nippy beauty salon owner provided centres for Bradbury to round off the scoring. The big number nine, who has scored seven times in six matches against Essex Minors - including his 100th Woodhurst goal - tucked home his first hat-trick of the season and then added a fourth in the last five minutes.

With six league games remaining, Woodhurst sit top with 22 points with Tudor breathing down our next three points off the pace.
