Eastern 1 - Woodhurst 7
Parsloes Park, Dagenham, Sunday 1st September 02
Goals: Roy Lawley 1, Jamie Bradbury 1, Leevan Rogers 2, Jimmy Woodham 2 and Steve Hughes 1
Woodhurst continued their unbeaten pre-season campaign with a convincing 7-1
thrashing of Dagenham outfit, Eastern FC.
The side's had met in a friendly for the Hurst's cup final preparations, but
a rather under strength Hurst on that day were unfortunate 5-4 losers, but a
rampant Woodhurst were just too much for Eastern on this occasion.
A Roy Lawley header from all of twenty yards into the top corner set the
away side on their way. Bradbury then doubled the lead as he pulled down a
Tony Taylor long ball on the run like it was on a piece of string before
tucking the ball beyond the 'keeper. Bradbury the linked with the tricky
new boy Leevan Rogers who prodded home a third before a Taylor own goal gave
Eastern some hope just before half time.
Bashford and McShea teamed up again in the centre of defence and looked
formidable and Andrew Norton in the goal made a series of fine stops. But
it was the urgency of the attacks that added the spark to the game and after
the break Woodhurst just kept going and continued to threaten the Eastern
goal as Souleyman ran non-stop.
Jimmy Woodham found his range to grab a brace, and Rogers also weighed in
with his second. Geordie Steve Hughes also got his name on the scoresheet
in a game that saw the return of 'Miami' Mike Kelleher, and rather more
surprisingly, 'Buckhurst Hill' Steve Pierson.
A job well-done on the pitch and a semi-rinse continued into the evening for
a few of the boys at the Nightingale. Football is back.
