Drofmor 3 - Woodhurst 4
Independent Sunday League

Cottons Park Romford, Sunday 20th October 02

A hard working performance from 10-man Woodhurst kept up the 100% record away to Drofmor Rovers.

The Hurst were always up against it from the off, with a number of absences and injuries and last-minute let down, leaving ten players remaining to take to the field.

It took a while for Woodhurst to understand the positions of a 3-4-2 formation and were caught out a couple of times early on and one of thoses allowed Drofmor to take the lead.

But it was a day for the Hurst to show their true colours when up against it and within 5 minutes they were level. Bradbury slipping through to Damion Spriggs and with the big striker through on goal he made the keeper's efforts wasted as he slid the ball under his body and into the open net.

After the break Woodhurst stepped up a gear and almost scored twice in the first minute of the re-start, but the breakthrough came only minutes later. A ball into the box was only half cleared to Bradbury on the edge of the box. He opened up and bent his shot goalward, fortunately taking a looping deflection over the goalie's reach and in.

But Drofmor didn't give up and got themselves back in front with two goals in the space of two minutes, first out numbering the Hurst on the break, then when they latched on to a misjudgement from the keeper''s long ball.

But Woodhurst are Champions for a reason, and with twenty minutes left, they began to bombard the Drofmor defence. Bradbury coming close when clean through, though he knows he should have done much better but finally Leevan Rogers understood his role and after beating his man on the right, delivered a delightful cross that Spriggs could just tuck in with his hip to bring things level again.

Time was running out for both teams, but the Hurst wanted all three points. Step forward Jimmy Woodham. The manager picked the ball up just outside the box, he cut in on to his favour left creating the space to unleash a superb strike in to the top corner of the net, fit to win any game. And though it won this one, every member of the side work very hard to maintain Woodhurst as the team to beat - still.
