Match Report
Bought to in association with the Nightingale Public House, Wanstead (The working mans Cuckfield) where Noel offers an array of beverages , light snacks and hearty meals. He's also in the process of organising a Pint-Throwing competition and so far the Bookies favourite is Jan Souleyman. Our other sponsors include Umbro, Coca-Cola, Blue Nun white wine and Albany Brent Ltd.
As Mike Kelleher leaves us to take up a profession in Surfing in Miami , his presence in midfield will be missed , barking orders at us from the middle of the park and how we could of done with him today , especially when we started with only ten men. Due to N.Bashford being locked up in Wormwood scrubs doing a 2 month stretch for conducting sexual acts with Coca-Cola vending machines which may I add put our sponsorship in serious doubt, left us with only one recognised centre back in P.Mcshea. This then left Jimmy with only one option and to play him as left back??? And to put W.Sotherton and S.Hughes as centre backs and J.Fullerton right back and no P.Jones to be seen yet!!! Our match organiser R.Houlton is still out with an injured ankle, a knock he picked up while chasing goats on the Greek island of Kafelonia and when questioned by the land/farm owner he claimed it was all for research in "The connection in Animal and Human love" , but we still had 3 capable wingers in the team anyway , M.Mcshea starting on the left and J.Souleyman on the right , Hughsie being the other , sort of . Roy Lawley and gaffa J.Woodham occupied the centre midfield who had been competing in the "Power League" , what it involves is a mystery but apparently pulling Trucks with old women on board and lifting wooden barrels about. Up front was the lone striker J.Bradbury , now the club secretary as well .After the rumours of a mental illness M.Elliott , after sufficient medication , was fit and able to play .On kick-off in the distance we saw a couple approaching the pitch and after much discouragement after 10 minutes Jonesy donned the kit and took up his customary position at the back and pushed Hughsie up front alongside Jamie. This was not however before Woodhurst went 2 behind , the first ten minutes of the season was hopefully the worst we'll play all season . A long ball over the top latched on to by a small dreaded man volleyed the ball past our cat's outstretched left palm. Minutes later Forest broke again down the right and created a 1 on 1 situation where Elliott was drawn off his line and was chipped from 15 yards out. Jones then entered the field and steadied the very shaky ship. Woodhurst then began to battle and get some good football going and looked dangerous on a few occasions but found the Forests' Keeper in great form and he kept the score 0-2 after 45 minutes. At half-time the team agreed we were as fit as Chicken's choice in women and to try and keep the ball on the floor and 4 seconds into the 2nd half a 90 yard pass was attempted , in true Woodhurst style. The deadlock wasn't broken until about 20 minutes in when a free kick was given to Forest about 25 yards out. Elliott was in the process of organising a 5 man wall when one of their cheeky strikers stepped up and lashed a shot which Elliott could only parry to our friend "Dread" who freely tapped home to give the visitors a 3 goal lead. But the assault was far from over , a long ball came over which Jones was expected to deal with, as he had all game , was illegally challenged for the ball. It had cleared the 2 aerial disputers and landed at Sotherton's feet , his normally sublime touch had let him down and lost the ball leaving Elliott , again , on his own. The striker did , however , throw 2 dummies before slotting ball past Jones and keeper. Woodhurst had to get some credit from the game which they deserved and pushed for their first goal of the season. A corner was won, Chicken whipped the ball to the far post and Jones exacted revenge by using a Forest player as a pogo stick nodded across the goal and Bradbury simply redirected the ball into the back of the net. The home team still kept attacking but about ten minutes from the end the 4-4-2 formation had transformed to a 2-7-2 and New Forest had 1 more goal in there bag. A solo run by one of the strikers although tracked by "powerhouse" Woodham from the half way line ran through the centre of the defence unchallenged rounded the keeper and made the final score 1-5. Even bringing on fans favourite S.Pierson couldn't effect the score!
